So on Sunday we finally were able to sail out of the Kenosha Harbor into Lake Michigan for a couple of hours! It was a windy day (again) so getting out of the breakwater was bumpy but after getting into the lake, it was fine.
Lake Michigan has a beautiful Caribbean green color to the water because of the sandy bottom. If you look over my head in the photo below, you can see how jade-like the water looks. A lot different than the menacing dark-blue water color of Lake Superior!
We checked the engine, steering, lines, sheets, mast, boom, and genoa to ensure everything was in good order. The navigation instruments worked great – I’m checking out the GPS system below.
With everything in good working order, it was time to bring out the bubbly and celebrate! We spent the entire week in Kenosha, getting ready for this moment and it seems we are ready to move north! Cheers from La Rive Nord!
